Under The Red Sea, Eilat, Israel – Day 1

What can I say? I have no reference point for what I’m seeing other than pictures in books and magazines. The types and numbers of hard and soft coral are stunning. To say dozens would not be an understatement, and this is an undersea landscape that begs for hyperbole. The fish species are also in the dozens, and I want to say hundreds. I’m trying to enjoy each dive, and at the same time I’m feverishly snapping away whenever possible to capture the moment. I wish I had a photographic memory, or that I could trust it a bit more, but alas I do not, so pictures will have to do. In the meantime, I won’t bust out the Latin fish ID just yet, at least not on this blog… maybe I’ll save that for the photo site where I will upload more pics. I’m still working on the best way technically to take pictures in warm blue water with my little point and shoot. These few photos are all day 1, from the Missile Boat deep dive, Neptune’s Tables, and Coral Beach.

WOW!!! WOW!!! WOW!!! WOOOOOWWWWWW!!!! AMAZING pictures!!! They look like they're from a book! I can't believe you took those! Well, I can, but you know what I mean, just WOW! That is SOOOO coool!!!

Warm water diving is something else. It's easy to see why there are lots of "vacation only" divers. I love it, even in our chilly Pacific NW. Certified and trained there, you just "fall into the water" here and you're off... moving effortlessly, floating, not churning up the water and damaging the reef flailing around as I've seen a couple of people do.

Go dive!

You're officially spoiled. Warm, clear, blue water is wonderful. Don't you wish you had a 130?! The first time you jump in and look down, it's strangely "too easy" after so many hard-core PNW dives.

Can't wait to have you back in your drysuit Tom!!!

PS: 119s are on deep discount a the UWS sale at the end of this month. You've got an email from me if you have the internet access enough to see it.

I don't know if the feelings I'm feeling qualify for jealousy because I don't wish we were there INSTEAD of you, I wish we were there WITH you. So, NO, I'm not jealous but I am very disappointed that I don't get to share the experience. I mean, this was the reason why Joseph and I got our scuba diving certificate. So I do feel a bit as if I haven't accomplished my purpose. At least, thanks for the pictures. That way, I at least get to see through a "magic box" what I would have seen through a mask. :)

Love you!

Tom:

Glad you are having such a good time. And, for what it is worth, your little "Point and Shoot", as you call it, is certainly up to the task. Absolutely beautiful pictures. Continue to enjoy!! Just be ready to give up all the juicy details when you get back.

You've got some great pictures there Tom. The Red Sea is one place I've always wanted to go dive. You're just reaffirming it for me with those pics. Glad you're having a good trip. Make a dive for me.

Nice to hear from everyone, and from some of my cold water diving buddies! I don't have to resist the impulse to say "neener neener"... I am FAR to relaxed floating in blue seas surrounded by clouds of gold to even go there... :-) I did look at some of my older cold water pics, and man, do they look dark...

I'd love to post more, but there just hasn't been time.

Thanks for everybody's comments, love hearing from you.
